Looking to test your limits on some Texas terrain this summer? We got you! Here are five of our favorite mountain biking trails in our home state.

Big Bend Ranch State Park

With endless stretches of singletrack trails and over 230 miles of rideable off-road tracks, this park is home to some of the most difficult trails in the state. If you’re feeling adventurous, try doing the loop in one massive ride. Otherwise, make it an epic multi-day bikepacking trip. The park is rugged and remote, so planning and preparation are your friends. We recommend doing some research on the park and its trails so you have a safe and worry-free ride.

Flat Rock Ranch

About an hour outside of San Antonio, this ranch has incredible views filled with limestone cliffs and rocks. You’ll also find 27 miles of ridable trails with thrilling downhills and steep climbs — so it’s generally considered a challenging ride for your average mountain biker. This ranch isn’t dog-friendly, so be sure to leave your best friend at home.

Northshore Trail

This popular 22-mile stretch of multi-terrain runs along Lake Grapevine in Flower Mound. With multiple jumps and descents, it’s perfect for riders of any ability, but due to its popularity, tends to get crowded. So be on the lookout for hikers and fellow bikers speeding around the bends.

Palo Duro Canyon

Looking for amazing views and mind-blowing rock formations? Head to Amarillo’s Palo Duro Canyon — the second largest canyon in the US. This iconic park has long been one of Texas's most popular mountain biking spots. It has over 30 miles of rideable tracks with dirt paths, challenging drops, and steep climbs — all with varying terrain and beautiful views. Look out for rattlesnakes and bring extra water if you plan on hitting the canyon during the hotter months.

Reveille Peak Ranch

For amazing views of the hill country, check out Reveille Peak Ranch — about an hour northwest of Austin, in Burnette. According to the mountain biking community, here are some of the best mountain biking trails in the state. It’s got lots of options for add-on extensions and loops off the singletrack trails depending on your skills and preferred level of difficulty.
